Our Mission, Vision
and Values

Know more about what drives us to do what we do.

🎯

Mission

In partnership with organisations, schools and communities, we strive to promote health, prevent disease, and then diagnose, treat and refer the healthcare barriers to learning among the underserved children of Uganda — at no cost to the family, through fully sponsored care.

🔭

Vision

A Uganda where every school is a place of health promotion and disease prevention — and where school health services are timely, affordable, patient-centred, equitable and reliable for children who are geographically, socially, economically and/or culturally isolated.

Our Objectives

Public health first — treatment second

Healing Wheels Uganda is a public health organisation that happens to carry a clinic. Our primary objectives are school health education, awareness and sensitisation. Testing and treatment are secondary to that mission — essential, but downstream of it.

📚

1. School health education

Structured, curriculum-aligned health education in every school we enter — hygiene, nutrition, menstrual health, SRH, mental health and injury prevention.

📢

2. Awareness & sensitisation

Pupils, teachers, parents and school leaders sensitised together, with posters, dialogues and assemblies that keep working after the clinic drives away.

🛡

3. Disease prevention

Targeted health promotion: WASH and waste management, safe menstrual waste disposal, immunisation support, soap and hygiene supplies, and safe-play and first aid at school events.

🔍

4. Screening

Whole-school screening — vision, hearing, oral health, nutrition, mental health — to find what a classroom cannot see.

🩺

5. Treatment & referral

On-site treatment where we can, and structured referral into the public health system where we cannot.

🌱

6. Community sustainability

Pupil peers, child mentors, teachers and parents trained and supported so the health work continues between our visits — and outlasts any single funding cycle.

Our Values

Five commitments we hold each other to

💡

Innovation

We design new ways to reach children that the traditional health system has not reached.

🤝

Collaboration

We work with government, schools, families and partners — never around them.

Equality

Every child receives the same standard of care, whatever their family can afford.

💕

Compassion

We treat the child in front of us as we would want our own child to be treated.

🩷

Empathy

We listen first. The family knows things about the child that no test will tell us.

Live these with us

Volunteers, partners and donors make these values real in the field.

Values are only worth the actions behind them

Turn ours into reality — fund a camp, partner with us, or bring the skills that put care into a child’s hands.
